According to a new US study, infrared thermometerthat measure temperature from the forehead or ear are unreliable.Institute for exercise and environmental medicine at the Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas has found that their reading are generally lower that the core temperaturewhen the body is under heat stress. Dr Craig says, scaning the wand across the patient's head is just talking skin temperature.
Infrared ear devices are little beter.Very much influenced by environmental temperature rather than tympanic membrane, which is closer to core body temperature
The best reading is taken from under the tangeu or armpit
