Part time fisherman drowned

In Klang, a part-time fisherman, who could not swim, is drowned after falling into the sea, about 1km from the Pangkalan Sayang Disayang fishing jetty in Kampung Rantau Panjang.

Samsudin Mohamad, who is from the village, was checking on the performance of his boat at about 9.30am.
It is believed that the boat, which had just been repaired, hit something in the water.

Samsudin's brother-in-law Hairuddin Sumarnak, 50, said other fishermen who were in their boats saw Samsudin in the water, waving his hands in distress.
But the fishermen could not get to him in time and some of them returned to the jetty to alert the authorities.
Others conducted a search of the area but only managed to recover Samsudin's boat, its engine still running.
Samsudin, a 48-year-old factory storekeeper, was on Hari Raya Aidilfitri leave.

He had contracted to charter his boat to anglers and wanted to ensure that the vessel was in good working order.

He leave his wife and two-year-old daughter.
